Sydney has some great cheap eats for those on a budget...

  • The Light Brigade Hotel on Oxford St Paddington is a great place to eat and drink. On Monday and Tuesday nights between 6 and 9 you can get yourself a steak with fries, salad, and a house wine or beer for only $10!
  • Every weekday till 3pm the Royal Hotel in 5 ways/Paddington has a hangover cure you can't resist. You choose from one of four burgers (and they're all delicious) and it comes with a heap of chips and salad, plus a schooner, all for just 10 bucks. It's called the "Tradesmans Lunch".
  • Thai Power in Kings Cross has fantastic cheap Thai food, and is a huge fave with backpackers. Awesome stirfrys!
  • For great seafood try Seacow at Rushcutters Bay. It's a little bit more expensive than the others but, hey, seafood normally is. We highly recommend the salt and pepper squid. BYO.
  • For a great cheap bite at any time of the day, you can't go past Tropicana on Victoria St, Darlinghurst. They have a fantastic variety of salads, pasta, and sandwiches that you just never get sick of. It's great for a coffee also.
  • For the tastiest and cheapest way to take in Sydney's beautiful Bondi Beach you can't go past the North Bondi RSL. Sit on the balcony and treat yourself to a hearty Aussie meal of bangers and mash.
  • For delicious, cheap Yum Cha, and only seconds from Uni, you must go to Kam Fook Seafood restaurant in Market City. Its on the 3rd Level. The steamed dumplings with seafood are unbeatable! No matter how much you eat it just never seems to cost more than 20 bucks per person!
