Subject feedback

Welcome to the Subject Feedback Panel!

We've listened to what you've told us and understand you would like more information about subjects you study - BEFORE you actually choose them. In response, a survey was sent to random students studying at UTS asking them for feedback.

You can be sure that these comments are real, unmonitored student feedback- however, remember that  it's only personal opinion and shouldn't be used as a bible! Results are listed below- and if you've studied subjects, please share with us by posting too in 'Rate your Subjects'!

HUMANITIES

Subject name: MIS (Media Information and Society)

What did you learn in this subject? The history of ideas of the last 3 centuries... from the Enlightenment, through
Liberalism and Marxism to Postmodernism. It helps you improving your critical thinking skills building upon these
great theories developped by Enlightened philosopher, Marx, Bourdieu, Habermass, Foucault...

What is the teaching style? 1h lecture / 1h1/2 tutorial. Exclusively theoretical (history of ideas) and therefore quiet a lot of readings. There is one group presentation and two pretty tough assignements based on your ability to think
critically, dissecting through the texts.

What did you like/dislikemost about this subject? This subject is pretty demanding and quiet dense with regard to
the stuff covered (each week another worldview!). The meaning and logic of this subject takes time to settle down,
it is from these kind that starts to make sense only once it's over! However, it gives you a solid base if you are
interested in political or social studies, philosophy or history or any kind of cultural studies.

Would you recommend it to other students? Why? Definitely, if you are prepared to feel the dizzyness of the constantly
evolving worldviews that have preceded us and that still defined our every day life! But doesn't it sound exciting???
