BUSINESS

Subject name: Corporate financial analysis

What did you learn in this subject? how to value companies! it brings many things you learn from earlier subjects together...everything makes sense after this subject.

What is the teaching style? Great teaching, and assessment is favourable, if u dont do well in one, u can make up for it later. But gotta do readings to keep up. Have to pay attention in class!

What did you like/dislike most about this subject? The quality of teaching, cool lecturer

Would you recommend it to other students? Why? Yes, because it gives you better understanding of the world. If u wanna be financial analyst, etc.

---
Subject name: Corporate finance- theory and practice

What did you learn in this subject? Everything about financing and investing of a company. What is appropriate, whether its worthwhile to engage in projects, and a focus of present valuing!

What is the teaching style? just gotta study well. mid sem, assignments and final.

What did you like/dislike most about this subject? lecturer's style is good. many good key points, just gotta listen carefully

Would you recommend it to other students? Why? Yes, like CFA, gives you better understanding of the world. Its a prerequisite if ur doing finance major anyway.

---
Subject name: Global Strategic Management

What did you learn in this subject? Learned about the different components of creating a global strategy and means by which to remain competitive in the international marketplace

What is the teaching style? 1 group presentation, 1 assignment and an exam

1 group presentation, 1 assignment and an exam
What did you like/dislike most about this subject? The subject was taught in a relaxed mannner which always makes it good, but i found the subject was not run consistently between the different classes and little guidance given to students

Would you recommend it to other students? Why? If you've done other subjects from within the school of management, then i would probably say that you would've covered a lot of the content that was in this subject (especially International Management and International Business and/or Marketing).

---
Subject name: Human Resource Management (21555)
What did you learn in this subject? How to manage employees, recruit, align organisational objectives with employee objectives, create job analysis, create recruitment strategies and processes.
What is the teaching style? Group work only in tutorials, lecture is pure lecture (boring)

What did you like/dislike most about this subject? The teacher was shocking, she has no clue how to lecture, out of more than a hundred students in our last most crucial lecture before exams about 10 people attended. I feel it is an excellent subject and worthwhile learning; the content is really thorough and it gives you an idea of what HR is all about.

Would you recommend it to other students? Why? Yes and no, yes for the content and "fair" assessment, but NO WAY for the lecturer/tutor Her voice is monotone, she reads directly off the slides, she doesn't know how to lecture interpersonally with a group. Its ironic she's teaching HR!!!

---
Subject name: Management Consulting

What did you learn in this subject? About the role of consultants in the business environment, and how to be a consultant to an extent

What is the teaching style? There is 1 group presentation, 1 essay and an exam

What did you like/dislike most about this subject? I enjoyed the content regarding consultants and the case studies were interesting, but i didn't like the way in which it was run as it seemed slightly unorganised.

Would you recommend it to other students? Why? If you're interested in consulting, then it's not a bad subject to take. The guest lecturers every week come from the industry and they give you practical perspectives that is good after so much theory in other subjects.

---

Subject name: Optimisation 1

What did you learn in this subject? It is a maths based course that teaches you how to find the best way of doing things. For example how to minimize costs when there are different costs of production and transport and restricted capacity while still meeting demand
What is the teaching style? lectures, with 2 exams and one group assignment which is quite easy.
What did you like/dislike most about this subject? If y ou are good at mathematics it is quite an easy subject. At times it can get a bit boring, but probably no more than other subjects.
Would you recommend it to other students? Only if you are good at maths and also doing business. Why? It fits in quite well with the business course.
